A new friend

We have made another Korean friend! His name is Jason and he studies at Yonsei. We met up with him today and had a great time discussing cultural differences among other things. :)

Freemarket in Hongdae and all Korean bell-coffee

This Saturday has been pretty chilled out. Me and Elin had lunch at Sloppies, an organic restaurant here in Hongdae. Then we walked to the Freemarket, which is a weekly event here where locals sell things they've made themselves. I bought a few post cards that I absolutely fell in love with.

After walking around for a while in the boiling sun, we decided to have some fika. We found a cute café but were terrified when we sat down and were handed the menu. The menu was all in Korean, given to us in an old videotape box and to order you had to RING A BELL! First off, we had NO clue what we were going to order but the most terrifying thing was that we HAD TO RING THE BELL! Now, if you are a Swede (not the vegetable) or know anyone that's Swedish, you know how uncomfortable we get when we have to do something we have no idea how to, and on top of it all make a lot of noise that will alert everyone in the surroundings. It took me and Elin a long time to gather the courage to ring the bell, but we did. And then we managed to order and also get a free cake!!!! It kind of feels like we've won every competition in the world now.

Gangnam style is apparently pretty wet

The first heavy downfall of this trip has been experienced! Me and Elin went to Gangnam today, walked around and suddenly felt the sky open up above us. We took shelter and sat there stunned by the amount of water that all of a sudden dropped from the sky. In about 40 minutes it was over, luckily. We continued our stroll and found ourselves in the middle of luxurious cars and stores. It was a different side of Seoul from what we've experiences here in Hongdae and I prefer the West side ;)

Rainy picture-time!

Sunny SInchon and organic supermarkets in Yeonhui-dong

Today me and Elin went to Yonsei and I purchased one of my course books "What money can't buy" after we'd been lost in the Yonsei bookstore for ages. We walked up to Yeonhui-dong after that and went into a huge supermarket with tons of organic food. We stocked up on fruits mostly (tomatoes mmm) and then walked home. Since it weren't that late we went down into Hongdae and had some coffee at Oppa coffe which we'd walked past a couple of times and found interested. I also bead Elin in wordfeud while we enjoyed our iced beverages. I'm on a hunt for a blue hat but Hongdae didn't deliver today. Hopefully I'll find one soon!

I only took a few pictures today, but here they are

Insadong and Cheong-gye-cheon

Today me and Elin have been walking around the Insadong area and then along the Cheong-gye-cheon river. That place is definitely somewhere I will go back! We went south through Euljiro on our way back. Overall just a nice day exploring Seoul.

You know what time it is!

Yonsei University - Orientation Day!

Today was my first day in school. We only had orientation and were introduced to Yonsei and some of the staff. Today was a rainy day as well so I got to experience the less boiling side of Seoul. I love see through umbrellas!

I didn't bring my big camera out with me today, so I'll just upload a few ones I took with my phone.

Exploring West Seoul

Today me and Elin went exploring. We started out by freestyling our way to Yonsei University. After we managed to scout our way to most of the buildings where I will have lectures we went to Loving Hut, a vegan restaurant in Sinchon. Mmmmm! After our lunch we went south and walked all the way to the Han river. It was cloudy and warm. It seems Seoul has a lot of outdoor gyms as well. And old people play croquet here.

Picture time!

The road to Seoul is looong

Finally! We have arrived. This is y second day in Seoul and so far I like it a lot. Every Korean that I've met have been really friendly and I feel welcomed. The best thing that has happened so far is when me and my friend Elin were picked up from Incheon airport by Vivian and her dad! Elin got to know her when they took the same class in college, in the U.S. She and her dad took us home to her home town. We had dinner at her mums restaurang and then Vivian followed us home to our apartmet we're renting through AirBnb in Hongdae.

Today we woke up feeling jetlagged but happy. We went to the Museum of Arts for the peaceminusone-exhibition which features one if Elins K-pop boys. It was interesting to see and I was fascinated by all the creativity. We accidently walked into a palace afterwards and later explored Hongdae.

Now, pictures!
